Cuba: Culture, History and Politics is a three credit course open to the general public for the first time. This unique interdisciplinary program is offered by Dominican University in collaboration with FLACSO-CUBA and the University of Havana, and is led by Cuba experts Dr. Christina Perez and Dr. Lisa Petrov.

The 15–day, 14–night program is preceded by pre-trip lectures and orientations at Dominican University. The Cuba portion of the program is based in Havana, the capital city of the country, with excursions to the country- side. U.S. regulations require a full-day of scheduled activities. Participants will meet with experts and visit historical, cultural, and social centers. Themes include: economy, democracy, education, health, gender, sexuality, Afro-Cuban religious expression, agriculture, and Cuban-US relations.

Required Lecture Series:

%uF0B7 Monday May 11, 6:30-9:00pm independent travel is not allowed.

  • Program fees for the General Public: $4,500
  • Program fees for current DU faculty, staff, and students $3,650

Program fee is inclusive and includes: round trip domestic and international airfare, dedicated transportation, meals (alcoholic beverages not included), translation, lodging, travel documents and fees, travel health insurance, all program activities, and the lecture series. Undergraduate and graduate students will receive three hours of credit. This course fulfills the multi-cultural requirement and requirements for Communications, Political Science, Sociology, Spanish, and Study of Women and Gender majors.

All applicants must attend an information session at Dominican before eligible to apply.
