Marvelous exchange of comments on columnist John Hubbuch's latest offering, "Anan's half-baked levy-cut proposal."
First off was the voluminously inclined John Butch Murtagh's opening shot, 3 pm 11/25, on what was to be an extensive back-and-forth about how many are employed full-time by the village.
At 3:43 came Mimi Jordan with what seemed to the week-later reader a curious question indeed, asking, "Who wrote this?"
And Murtagh at 4 with "MY BET - It's Ken Trainor."
Who wrote this? Maybe it's Trainor? What's going on here? It's Hubbuch, isn't it? Does Murtagh think Trainor wrote this column for Hubbuch?
Well what was he to think? The column had been posted sans attribution. For all he knew, it was an unsigned editorial.
Meantime, bells were going off on Oak Park Ave., and at 4:47 came Publisher Haley to the rescue, complete with red-alert tag "Wednesday Journal Employee": "We missed the attribution when this was first posted. It is an opinion column by John Hubbuch."
In minutes Murtagh was back at his FTE explanations, but in the midst of them a few days later came this apt advice from the man of the hour, Hubbuch himself: "If you agreed with this column, the author was John Hubbuch. If you disagreed, it was Ken Trainor."
FAIR ENOUGH, JOHN!
