Antonio "Tony" Munoz the Shoe Doc of Tony's Shoe Clinic, 115 N. Oak Park Ave., was able to save a briefcase on its deathbed just in time for the holidays.

Betsy is the trusty briefcase of Gov. Pat Quinn. The Galewood resident has been carrying around the light-brown leather briefcase, usually stuffed to maximum capacity with a number of files, for 31 years.

While well-travelled and dependable, Betsy had seen better days.

"She was extremely tattered and her handles were wearing thin," reports Michael Sneed in a Sun-Times piece.

It was time for Betsy to see Tony. After being stitched and polished, Quinn said his leather side-kick "looked better than ever and ready for the next 30 years ... just in time for Christmas."

I don't like Quinn, but I sympathize with him at the prospect of having to replace an old and trusted brief case.
