In response to COVID-19 and nearby apartment construction, Margaritas,  804 S. Oak Park Ave. in Oak Park, entered a temporary closure known in the restaurant industry as a hibernation on Sunday, Dec. 13.

“We are not upset with the village, but we are not doing well,” said Rene Roman, owner. “For this business to work we need to have at least 50 percent capacity for indoor dining. Then we will see the bright light at the end of the tunnel.”

Margaritas would re-open sooner if federal stimulus money became available, but a change in the weather and the return of outdoor dining will not expedite their return.

“We only have room for four or five outdoor tables,” said Roman. “That just isn’t enough. We will be back when indoor dining is allowed again. If we close maybe, we can free up some business to help another restaurant survive.”
