Sarah Abboreno Corbin from Chicago, Illinois

This is Sarah Corbin - Shopping Editor and Blogger - there are three businesses from OPAD: Magical Minds and Bead in Hand and Majamas. I'm sorry you missed seeing them all. I find that I am in a position in my life when I work, freelance and volunteer to help businesses succeed and help businesses promote themselves as much as I can. With the gift guides I hope that from year to year we can even out the coverage from business to business from gift guide to gift guide. And I try and keep our items that we feature as fresh as possible. It is always helpful to get a heads up from different businesses on items that they are carrying. And I'm always happy to accept a full resolution photo from different businesses for consideration. I just can't physically get to everyone to ensure that all businesses get equal coverage in every guide. I wish I could. I have a long list in my head of folks that need me to visit them for Valentines Day including the shops of Chicago Avenue - there was not one photo. I would also encourage all businesses to work with advertising sales staff at Wednesday Journal as a part of their own annual marketing plan. Finally, and fabulously this year I heard from a number of retailers in September about their Winter line-up. When I know what a retailer has in store, when they are open, and how to contact them with questions - it lets me know that I can be efficient in my choices. I hope that helps answer your questions.

I realize the WJ can't highlight every local business but, as an Oak Park Arts District business owner, I am disappointed to see only one item from one OPAD business featured in the 2014 Holiday Gift Guide.
