River Forest– Concordia University Chicago senior David Woenker has been recognized as a Student Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois. The award is given to an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree-granting institutions of higher learning in Chicago.

Woenker was nominated by CUC’s undergraduate faculty. “Receiving this type of award was the last thing I expected,” he says humbly. “My professors have been an inspiration to me and it’s an honor to be recognized by them in this way.”

Unable to attend the official recognition ceremony in Springfield, IL, Woenker accepted his award from CUC President Rev. Dr. Daniel L. Gard. “We are extremely proud of David’s accomplishments both academically and as a servant leader,” Gard says. “He clearly demonstrates the characteristics of Lincoln Laureates, including a commitment to the principles of democracy and humanity as embodied by Abraham Lincoln.” The award consisted of a medal, a formal certificate and a $1,000 monetary stipend.

A native of Cary, IL, Woenker currently holds a 3.95 GPA, is a CUC Presidential Honors Scholar, and is double-majoring in English and chemistry. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and PADS, and is also captain of CUC’s ultimate Frisbee team.
