Oak Park Mayor Anan Abu-Taleb aims to put Oak Park on the map at this Sunday's Chicago Marathon.
It will be Abu-Taleb's 16th since he began running them in the 1990s – he's run in Boston, New York and California as well, and sent Wednesday Journal a photo of his running jersey.
The lime green running shirt proclaims "Mayor Anan Oak Park Open For Business."
Reached by telephone, Abu-Taleb said he thought it was a way to get a little more attention for Oak Park.
"I hope that I will be running next to some runners who are big developers or business people or people who want to move to Oak Park and they see the shirt that says Oak Park is open for business," he said. "We need to spread that out and let people know about it."
Abu-Taleb, who was the 12th fastest Oak Parker to run the race last year, finishing the race in three hours 25 minutes and 56 seconds, said he tells himself every year that this is the last year.
"It takes a lot of training, but it's helpful to me," he said. "It helps me maintain my focus and discipline. It just allows me to be by myself for a long time and clear my head."
