Oak Park lost a true champion for diversity and inclusion with the passing of Joe Scully. Joe served on the Oak Park Regional Housing Center's Honorary Board and to honor his commitment to our mission, we are starting a fund in his name. The Joseph Scully Fund for Inclusion will be created to ensure that the Housing Center can fulfill our mission to achieve meaningful and lasting diversity in Oak Park and the region. This fund will continue Joe's legacy of commitment to inclusion in Oak Park. Joe and his wife Judy have been strong and consistent supporters of our mission.

Many older Oak Parkers will know that Joe also played a key role in combating redlining and promoting investment in Oak Park as president of St. Paul Federal Savings and Loan. At a time when block-by-block racial change reached Oak Park's border, many financial institutions were tightening mortgage lending, and often conventional loans were not available.  Joe and Leo Blaber made sure that St. Paul Federal would continue to provide mortgages in Oak Park to support our integration. It was the right thing to do morally, and it was the right thing to do for the bank's bottom line. We can all be grateful for his commitment to our community and our values.

Donations can be mailed to Oak Park Regional Housing Center, ATTN: Scully Fund, 1041 South Boulevard, Oak Park, IL 60302 or online at
