Oak Park resident Steve James, whose 10-part docuseries America to Me -- about the long saga of racial progress at Oak Park and River Forest High School -- aired on Starz in 2018, is poised to debut another documentary he produced through Kartemquin Films, the Chicago-based nonprofit production company.
This time, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker's razor-sharp eye is focused on Chicago politics. According to a synopsis of the film on Kartemquin's website, City So Real is an "impressionistic, mosaic portrait of current-day Chicago which delivers a deep, multifaceted look into the soul of America's third-largest city, set against the backdrop of its history-making 2019 mayoral campaign."
The four-hour miniseries is set to premier at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah later this month.
