It is with great sadness that we announce that Sophia Anastos has decided to step down from her role as Director of the River Forest Public Library. Effective January 2016, Sophia will take a leave of absence for health reasons. The Library Board has named Sue Quinn to serve as Interim Director pending a search for a new Director.  There will be a farewell celebration in her honor on Sunday, January 10 from 3-5 PM at the River Forest Public Library. This is open to all members of the community and we hope you will join us.

A valued and treasured leader of the Library for over eight years, Sophia has provided leadership, creativity, and expertise that have literally transformed the Library. Programs have grown exponentially, collections have been immeasurably enriched, and key digital resources have been added. Her many other accomplishments include development of a new Strategic Plan addressing the needs of residents of all ages, major improvements to the physical plant, reinvigoration of the children's room, establishment of a teen space, and installation of the beautiful Anne Smedinghoff Garden as a community meeting place in the front of the Library. Sophia accomplished all of this while scrupulously ensuring that the Library operated within its budget.

The Library Board has named Sue Quinn to serve as Interim Director pending a search for a new Director.  Sue has been with the Library for eight years, most recently in the position of Assistant Director.
