2018 BDC Board President Andy Sotiropoulos gave the following speech at the BDC Annual Meeting:

"Vivacious.  Dedicated.  High-octane.  These words and more describe Alba Lovero, "Mother of Berwyn," keeper of Berwyn's proud past and visionary for our future. She has blazed a trail and inspired generations of Berwynners to give back to the City they love so much.

Alba is one of six children born to Lucia & Giovanni Pace, wife of the late Thomas Lovero, loving mother to Robert and Scott, adoring grandmother of Thomas, Danielle and Gabrielle, and doting great-grandmother to Thomas and Matthew.

Alba is a long-time resident of Berwyn and has an illustrious record of City and community service that is a true testament to her dedication, passion and versatility. Alba honorably served Berwyn for 25 years as City Collector and Licensing Officer.

Her love for family and community is intertwined; she's given her time and efforts to help many an individual in Berwyn, as if they were part of her own family. While raising her children and succeeding in professional endeavors, she has also found time to provide leadership to numerous organizations, including St. Mary of Celle Little League Women's Auxiliary, St. Mary of Celle Solidarity, St. Mary of Celle School Mother's Club, St Mary of Celle Pack and Troop 63 Scouts, Boys Scouts of America, the Italian- American Civic Organization of Berwyn, Calabresi in America Organization, the Berwyn Development Corporation and more.

Through her efforts at the BDC, including the Berwyn Historic Depot District Special Events Committee, TIF Committees, Marketing Committee and the New Business Taskforce, Alba has worked tirelessly to make Berwyn an effervescent community full of stellar events and thriving businesses.

Alba was the BDC's 2005 Piper Award winner, after which she will forever be known as "Mother of Berwyn" and the Pav YMCA honored Alba with the 2016 Teeter Award, which annually recognizes an outstanding community leader. It is with great honor that we add another achievement to her list—the BDC Lifetime Service Award. We are eternally grateful for her service to the City of Berwyn, the BDC and beyond. Congratulations, Alba."

Her son, Mayor Robert J. Lovero accepted the award on her behalf.
