Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School's award-winning performing arts program BRAVO! is still at its winning ways. Last week, 45 students from the program traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the International Junior Theater Festival, where they performed in front of 5,000 music theater teachers and students representing more than 100 groups across the United States.

This was the eighth consecutive year BRAVO! has been invited to the prestigious festival, which includes workshops in Broadway performance led by theater professionals plus a slew of student performances.

In addition to their capstone performance in front of all the festival's participants, BRAVO! members also performed excerpts from Annie and Aladdin at a special 20th Anniversary celebration of Broadway Junior, a suite of "condensed, author-approved versions of classic musicals … custom-tailored to the needs of young people and schools," according to the program's website.

Amazing group of kids, staff, and families! BRAVO! is a gem of a program both for the kids who perform and the kids who work backstage. Kudos to all, and I'm very grateful to have a school system that supports the arts! Love to see this success shared with the community. Thank you for covering this story!
