Oak Park firefighters were doing their best Thursday morning to get one of the fire trucks specially polished to lead Saturday's funeral procession for Kenny Harris, the veteran firefighter who died Monday night of a heart attack.
But elbow grease alone wasn't doing the trick. So Firefighter Randy Antos began calling local body shops looking for help in detailing the truck. He struck out until he reached the service department at The Autobarn Volvo Cars Oak Park where Marc Kubil, the service manager, told him to bring the truck right in.
"It was a nice day to work outside and we were really happy to help them out. These people run into burning buildings for us," said Kubil.
Antos said that preparing the department for the funeral "is a real team effort throughout the department and village hall."
He was grateful for the help from Volvo's service staff. "They are absolutely fantastic. The truck looks great. We can't thank them enough from the bottom of our hearts."
