Fun, free and inexpensive events blogger

It's going to be a cold weekend and what better way to warm-up and have fun than attending one or both of these two events.  First, the annual "Chili Cook-Off" which benefits Best Buddies of OPRF High School is on Saturday, January 22 from 1 - 2pm.  Held at Whole Foods in River Forest, their team members will go head-to-head in the cook-off.  Cast your vote at this Free Event.  Then on Sunday, January 23rd, from Noon - 4pm, Healy's West Side, 7321 Madison in Forest Park is the host for a 20-contestant "Chili Cook-Off" which benefits Opportunity Knocks, a local non-profit which helps adults with developmental disabilities.  There'll be food, drink, raffles with a suggested $20 donation.  More info at 366-4277 or visit www.healywestside.com

Thanks for turning to Wednesday Journal and OakPark.com. We love our thousands of digital-only readers. Now though we're asking you to partner up in paying for our reporters and photographers who report this news. It had to happen, right?

On the plus side, we're giving you a simple way, and a better reason, to join in. We're now a non-profit -- Growing Community Media -- so your donation is tax deductible. And signing up for a monthly donation, or making a one-time donation, is fast and easy.

No threats from us. The news will be here. No paywalls or article countdowns. We're counting on an exquisite mix of civic enlightenment and mild shaming. Sort of like public radio.
