The Fenwick High School wrestling team finished fifth in the Steve Eckert Holiday Classic at Morton on Dec. 29 with 125 points.

The Friars had three individual champions. Vincent Fioravanti defeated Morton’s Edwin Rangel 6-2 in the 160-pound title match. Finn McGee scored a 9-0 major decision over Larnzel McNeal of Comer at 170 pounds. And Jack Paris pinned Matt Elzy of Riverside-Brookfield in 5:18 to win the 182-pound title.

Fenwick had five other wrestlers who placed. Aidan Burns was third at 152, while Conor Stetz was third at 220. Elam Staples placed seventh at 138, while Emmet O’Connell was eighth at 126 pounds and Max Kenny eighth at 132.

Four medalists for OPRF at Granite City

Oak Park and River Forest High School had four wrestlers medal at the Red Schmitt Tournament on Dec. 29-30 in downstate Granite City.

Zev Koransky placed third at 113 pounds, while Will Kelly was fifth at 132, Vance Domenz came in sixth at 182 and Cooper Lacey finished eighth at 138.

After a home match against Proviso West on Jan. 5, the Huskies will travel to Lacrosse, Wisconsin, for the Clash Duals on Jan. 6 and 7.
