We reported last week that the longtime owners of the shuttered Mohr Concrete plant at Harlem and the Ike have finally sold the property to a developer. The plan, not a surprise in any way, is to build apartments and possibly a hotel on the 3.29-acre site.
There will be questions and debate over height and design. There will be some odd nostalgia over the loss of the Polk Brothers’ Santa high up on a conveyor belt over Harlem. But we were taken aback by a Facebook commenter who said this would be a loss of a “charming piece” of old Oak Park.
Neighbors, the village has wanted Mohr Concrete gone for decades. We can’t wait. And we don’t see the charm.
