One more time — the decent, sane majority of Americans, gun owners included, want reasonable gun laws. Universal background checks, red flag laws, training, age restrictions are by no measure extreme actions. The gun lobby’s shrill, tired mantra of a “slippery slope” to gun prohibition has not only not come to fruition, it has, in fact, careened dangerously in the opposite direction. What civil society needs hundreds of millions of guns, much less readily available military weapons?
Half of the Senate is beholden to the NRA and the other half cowers in the face of partisan opposition.
The right to bear an AR-15 should not eclipse the right of our children and us to go about our lives without fear of being gunned down.
Yet maybe it does because the carnage continues unabated.
Shame on us!
