Saturday, May 21 is the first day of the 2022 Oak Park Farmers Market season. It is also the first of two Go Green Days. Various Oak Park/River Forest green organizations will have tables and friendly folks who can answer your questions about using less plastic, getting your home signed up for community solar and much more. Please stop by and say hello.

And on your way to the market, grab your favorite sturdy reusable shopping bag, reusable bags for produce, and containers for more delicate fruit and vegetables (it’s almost raspberry season!). Every bag or container you bring is one less plastic item out in the world. Please thank the market vendors that use paper or compostable bags, which you won’t need, of course. You could also suggest to vendors still using plastic that they consider shifting to more sustainable packaging.

In the words of Marshall Field: “Give the customers what they want.”

Enjoy the market and all it offers.
