There is no good news in West Suburban Hospital Medical Center having lost accreditation for its longtime internal medicine residency program. The Journal reported that news last week. Today we note that the hospital’s family medicine residency program was placed on probation last October.

West Sub has long prided itself as being that rare community hospital that also boasted credentials as a teaching hospital.

Now the endless ownership and management changes that have plagued this critical institution over 20 years have most certainly resulted in this humbling outcome.

The hospital’s current owner, California-based Pipeline Health, says it will work to regain these accreditations and notes that it continues to offer solid medical care. That’s good to hear, but seeing will be believing that Pipeline has the patience and determination to make the ongoing investments which might make that possible.

Will they be around long enough to do so?
