Lisa Shelley should be highly favored to become our next Oak Park village manager. In fact, she’s earned the position.
She listens, she acts and she takes accountability. Her knowledge of Oak Park is valuable for all of us who need historical context and new ideas.
The village board needs someone who can place things in perspective, talk frankly, and carry out the board’s directives. She can also provide pushback when needed, in a manner that is respectful.
As a former trustee, I can attest that she was one of the best staffers to work with. She was responsive, respectful and forceful. Most of all, she knew what she did not know … and she admitted it … and then looked for the answers.
I urge the current board to look inside Oak Park for a village manager.
