Thank you, Michael Romain, for your column linking the Oak Park Public Library’s One Book program to the recent and ongoing travesty at the Niles Public Library. Only after reading your column and the link to bookriot.com did I fully realize the importance of knowing the ethics and motivations of the candidates we vote for as library trustees. 

The library board is not just a down-ballot body of little consequence; it can have a serious impact on the policies of our beloved community resource. 

Oak Park voters, let us all do our homework before the next local election to ensure that we continue the library policies we value, and let us be equally vigilant about the candidates we select for our other local boards as well.
