A Chicago man was arrested at 3:35 p.m., July 22 after being identified as the alleged offender in an armed robbery that took place over a year and a half ago in Oak Park. The 32-year-old suspect also has an active warrant in Kane County for driving on a suspended license.

The armed robbery for which he was arrested took place in the 200 block of Madison Street at 7:27 p.m., Dec. 19 in 2019, when a Palatine resident met the alleged offender to sell a four-carat diamond wedding ring. The offender allegedly showed a black handgun and demanded the ring as well as money from the victim’s wallet, according to the police incident report. The estimated loss was valued at $7,900.


A pink and white bicycle was taken from a residential garage with an unlocked service door in the 1100 block of South Taylor Avenue around 5:34 a.m., July 23. The estimated loss is $200.

A pair of Apple AirPods was taken from a white 2006 Chevrolet cargo van with an open front driver’s side window between 9 a.m. and noon, July 19 in the 1100 block of South Lombard Avenue. The estimated loss is $170.

Someone broke into a 2016 Honda Civic by smashing the front passenger’s side window then removed from inside two large purses, which contained the victim’s wallet, miscellaneous cards, a backpack, Adderall prescription and make up between 11:30 p.m., July 19 and 8 a.m., July 20 in the 600 block of North Boulevard. The estimated loss is $795.

A specialized white, black and teal women’s road bicycle and a specialized green bicycle were removed from a garage with an unlocked service door in the 300 block of South Cuyler Avenue between 8:15 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., July 20. The estimated loss is $1,372.

A black drawstring bag, containing a pair of TOMS shoes and a white phone charger, was removed from an unlocked 2018 Jeep Cherokee between 1:30 p.m. and 1:35 p.m., July 20 in the 500 block of Lake Street. The estimated loss is $100.

Someone used a brick to break the 5-feet-by-6-feet front window of Metro PCS, 6319 North Ave., then removed an iPhone Pro on display and $100 from the cash register once inside at around 2:25 a.m., July 22.

Motor vehicle theft

Someone removed a tan 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, left running with the keys in the ignition, at around 11:19 p.m., July 22 in the 900 block of South Boulevard.

Recovered stolen auto

The 2010 silver Toyota Camry reported stolen July 15 from the 200 block of Home Avenue was recovered by Illinois State Police at 12:52 a.m., July 22 on Sacramento Boulevard at the I-290. No apprehensions.


A large rainbow pride flag was removed from a fixed flag post on the front porch of the victim’s residence in the 300 block of South Lombard Avenue around 4:12 a.m., July 22. The estimated loss is $225.

Criminal property damage

A man was observed via video surveillance punching the plexiglass window of a Green Line train car belonging to the Chicago Transit Authority, causing the window to shatter, between 7:41 p.m., July 20 and 2:53 a.m., July 21 at 728 South Blvd. The estimated damage is $2,329.

Someone broke the rear kitchen window of a residence in the 100 block of South Austin Boulevard between 5 p.m., July 20 and noon, July 22. The estimated damage is $200.

These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports July 20-26 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
