Hilarious. In the run-up to the River Forest election, much was said about the now infamous Lake-Lathrop “project.” Mainly, we heard that it’s going along swimmingly and the building will be up and ready by November. Meanwhile, for months at a time nothing happens, no reports come from the developer, and we continue to build air castles.
So two or three days before the election … mirabile dictu! … a backhoe shows up on the property, its large arm pointing to the sky magnificently, showing “something is happening!”
By the Monday after the election it was gone. We had been duped by an election-ready rental backhoe performance. It was brilliant. Wonderful theater. I’m still laughing at the chutzpah.
November, here we come. Or maybe later.
