I am a resident of River Forest, and I have been longing to express my opinion on the expense of going to college for lower- and middle-class families. As a 17 year-old, I will have to start looking at schools, and the things I have come across have startled me. I believe that colleges take advantage of people because they know they can, especially selective colleges. They know they offer the best education and people are willing to pay the price. But even non-selective colleges can charge up to $40,000 a year per student, which is outright ridiculous. I believe there should be a limit on how much colleges can charge based on the student’s achievement and that student’s financial stability.
