At 8:15 p.m., Dec. 25, an Oak Park man was approached by two men in the 800 block of South Taylor Avenue, when one of the men showed a handgun. While the victim fled, he heard approximately six shots discharged, but was unsure if they were directed at him.
Three men and two women hopped out of a vehicle and approached two people, then one of the men showed a silver handgun and took one of the victim’s cellphone and keys in the 300 block of South Harvey Avenue at 8 p.m., Dec. 22. The five offenders got back into their vehicle and fled. The estimated loss was unknown at the time of reporting.
Someone broke into an apartment and took a Sony PlayStation 5 gaming system from underneath the Christmas tree between noon, Dec. 18 and 2:30 p.m., Dec. 21 in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue. The estimated loss is $1,100.
The passenger side window of a white 2017 Ford Edge was broken, and a pair of Maui Jim glasses were taken from inside the vehicle while it was parked in a carport in the 1000 block of Forest Avenue between 2 p.m., Dec. 20 and 10:41 a.m., Dec. 21. Police estimate the damage and loss to be $700.
A man was caught on video surveillance breaking the beveled glass panel to an apartment vestibule, entering the building and removing a package then fleeing in the 300 block of South Humphrey Avenue at 7 p.m., Dec. 21. Estimated damage is $400.
Someone broke into a residential garage by removing the window slats and then took a snow blower from inside between 10 p.m., Dec. 22 and 10 a.m., Dec. 23 in the 800 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. The estimated loss is $500.
Someone broke into an unlocked residential garage and removed a bicycle between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., Dec. 24 in the 700 block of North Oak Park Avenue. The estimated loss is $1,800.
Motor vehicle theft
Someone took a Nissan Maxima parked in the 200 block of Harrison Street between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m., Dec. 21. Chicago police later recovered and impounded the vehicle.
A package was taken from the lobby of a building in the 200 block of South Oak Park Avenue between noon and 11 p.m., Dec. 19. The estimated loss is $300.
Someone cut the catalytic converter off a vehicle in the 100 block of Wesley Avenue between 3:55 a.m. and 4 a.m., Dec. 24. The estimated loss is unknown.
An Oak Park resident was defrauded by an offender after the resident met the offender to sell a pair of white Converse tennis shoes; the offender transferred money to the resident, took the shoes and then canceled the payment at midnight, Dec. 18 in the 200 block of Clinton Avenue.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports Dec. 21 – Dec. 25 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
