Three homes were marred by paintballs in Oak Park over the course of one day last week. The first reported incident occurred between 12:39 a.m. and 7:20 a.m., Dec. 11, when someone fired orange paintballs at a home, damaging the front door and window, in the first block of Augusta Street. 

Another home, located in the 600 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, was damaged after its garage was shot six times with orange paintballs. According to police reports, the incident occurred between 7 p.m., Dec. 10 and 7:39 a.m., Dec. 11. The value of the damage was unknown in the first two cases.

Orange paintballs were fired again at a home in the 600 block of North Taylor Avenue between 6:50 and 6:58 a.m., Dec. 11. The paintballs damaged the third home’s stucco façade and windows; police reports state the estimated cost to fix the damage is $100. 

 

Aggravated vehicular hijacking

Two male juveniles from Chicago were arrested Dec. 10 in the 3900 block of West End Avenue for an aggravated vehicular hijacking that occurred that same day in the 600 block of South Maple Avenue. 

 

Burglary

Someone broke into St. Catherine-St. Lucy Catholic School, 27 Washington Blvd., ransacked an unlocked office and tried to pry open the locked door of a second office between 6 p.m., Dec. 4 and 7 a.m., Dec. 7. The estimated damage is $100.

 

Motor vehicle theft

Someone removed an unattended and running 2012 Buick Enclave from the 600 block of North Harvey Avenue at 7:26 p.m., Dec. 6. The estimated loss is $15,000.

The black 2011 Acura MDX reported stolen Nov. 14 from the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue was recovered by Chicago police at 9:03 p.m., Dec. 8 in the 1200 block of South Kildare Avenue, Chicago. Police made no apprehensions.

The gray 2014 Nissan taken during a Nov. 18 carjacking in the 700 block of North Boulevard was recovered by Chicago police without apprehension at 9:19 a.m., Dec. 10 in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road, Chicago.

The red 2013 Honda CRV reported stolen Dec. 9 from the 100 block of Madison Street was recovered by Chicago police at 12:57 p.m., Dec. 10 in the 5000 block of West Erie Street, Chicago. 

 

Theft

Someone cut the catalytic converter from a 2008 Toyota parked in the 400 block of South Cuyler Avenue between 10 p.m., Dec. 4 and 5:30 a.m., Dec. 7. The total loss is $1,800.

A FedEx package containing a Purple mattress was taken from the front door of a building in the 1000 block of Lake Street at midnight, Nov. 23. The estimated loss is $1,000.

Someone removed the rear license plate of a gray 2013 Nissan Sentra and all of the lug nuts from the front driver’s side tire while the vehicle was parked on the street in the 400 block of South Elmwood Avenue between 8 p.m., Dec. 8 and 2 p.m., Dec. 9. The estimated loss is $25.

An Amazon package containing teething toys was taken from a residence in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard around 1:30 p.m., Dec. 10.

A package containing holiday chocolates was removed from the front door of a residence in the 600 block of Washington Boulevard between 6:52 p.m., Dec. 11 and 1:30 p.m., Dec. 12. The estimated loss is $35.

 

These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports Dec. 7 – Dec. 14 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
