For the eighth week in a row, over 100 Oak Park residents tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Oak Park Department of Public Health, 122 Oak Park residents tested positive for coronavirus from Dec. 9-15. Those who contracted COVID-19 over this past week range in age from “from less than 20 into their 90s.” 

The Village of River Forest’s COVID-19 database also shows there were 20 residents who tested positive for COVID-19 in the same time period. 

Now averaging over 20 new COVID-19 cases a day, Oak Park’s rolling 14-day positivity rate is at 6.87 percent. River Forest’s positivity rate also went up from last week (8.04 percent) and is now at 8.84 percent, according to Northwestern University’s COVID-19 database. 

As nursing homes and long-term care facilities’ death rate has increased nationwide, another resident, a 96-year-old woman, died at Belmont Village of Oak Park this past week. Her death marked the fifth resident death at Belmont. 

Belmont Village Oak Park has also had 14 resident and 24 staff cases since the village started providing updates to the public on long-term care facilities on March 18. 

As for Oak Park’s other assisted living facilities, Berkeley Nursing and Rehab Center has had 11 resident deaths, 15 staff cases and 47 residents test positive for COVID-19; Brookdale Oak Park has had 10 resident and 19 staff COVID-19 cases along with two resident deaths; Oak Park Arms has had six resident and four staff cases while one resident died after testing positive for COVID-19; Oasis of Oak Park has had 23 resident cases, 12 resident deaths and 12 staff cases. 

1,905 Oak Park residents have tested positive since March 18, according to the village. Cook County’s Director of Communications, Natalia Derevyanny, announced on Dec. 14 the county has had 7,311 COVID-19 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
