CTA Blue Line service was closed temporarily Friday, Dec. 4, after a woman was attacked by a man on an inbound train that had stopped at the Blue Line station at 720 S. Austin Blvd at 1:30 p.m.

The woman appeared to suffer from head trauma, as well as an eye injury, but was conscious and breathing.

“Oak Park detectives are conducting a preliminary investigation,” said Oak Park Deputy Police Chief Shatonya Johnson. “At this time, the only information that I can share is the female victim was stabbed multiple times by an unknown male subject.”

Witnesses told Oak Park police that the woman had either been stabbed with a knife or struck by a hammer, according to Oak Park spokesman David Powers. The victim was transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

Police are searching for the offender, who is described as an African American man, approximately 30 years old, of medium build and height and wearing a “lock” hair style. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded jacket, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a blue surgical mask.
