Oak Park saw an alarming spike in positive COVID-19 cases in the village over the last two weeks, reflecting a statewide trend. Oak Park Public Health Director Mike Charley announced last week 61 residents tested positive for COVID-19 over a two-day period from Oct. 29-30.
The 39 residents who tested positive on Oct. 30 marked the highest single-day total Oak Park has seen since the village started reporting the daily totals on March 18.
River Forest only had four people test positive for COVID-19 from Oct. 29-30 but has seen its positivity rate creep up from 6.72 percent on Oct. 26 to 7.22 percent on Oct. 28.
Oak Park’s positivity rate has shot up from 4.18 percent on Oct. 26 to 7.80 percent on Nov. 1. As of Nov. 2, Oak Park has had 967 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March 18.
