There are no known injuries and no arrests yet in what police believe was a shootout between people in two vehicles around 3 p.m., Oct. 29 at Lombard Avenue and Garfield Street.

“There are no injuries that we know of so far,” said Sgt. Joshua Bertels of the Oak Park police department.

A vehicle not involved in the dispute was hit during the shooting. Police found around 18 shell casings at the scene, according to Bertels.

About a half an hour after the shooting took place, police responded to reports of an armed carjacking in the 900 block of Harrison Street. Bertels said police are unsure whether the two incidents are connected and that they have not been able to get in contact with the person who was carjacked.

“We’re still trying to get ahold of the victim,” said Bertels.

Police do not have any descriptions of the vehicles or people involved in either incident at this time.

“With the carjacking, we’re trying to find the victim, so we have no description from them,” said Bertels. “With the shooting, we’re waiting for some camera footage.”

This is a developing story.
