Nominations for the 52nd annual equity Jeff Awards were announced last month. Receiving six nominations was 16th Street Theater’s production of His Shadow which ran in the fall of 2019.

His Shadow was nominated for Production – Midsize Play; New Work, playwright Loy A. Webb; Director – Midsize Play, Wardell Julius Clark; Performer in a Principal Role – Play, Charles Andrew Gardner (Teeney); Performer in a Supporting Role – Play, Marcus D. Moore (Kodak/Man); and Midsize Lighting Design, David Goodman-Edberg. The Berwyn theater has never received so many nominations for one show.

His Shadow was a complete, visceral experience,” said 16th Street Theater Artistic Director Ann Filmer. This “play about ambition and activism on the football field asks, ‘What does it take to stand up against police brutalizing Black bodies, and what are the repercussions for those who speak out?'”

The equity Jeff Awards will be presented online on Nov. 9.
