The re-do of Lake Street from Forest to Harlem about 20 years ago was a marvelous improvement. Finally, the north sidewalk was smooth and wide enough for my wife and me to stroll past another couple without either couple having to do the sidestep. How glorious it was while it lasted. But then hazards in the form of trees and grates and sandwich boards and dining areas started appearing, ruining the ambiance for all.
Here’s hoping this new iteration will Make Lake Street Great Again!
