The letter from Fritz Kaegi, Cook County Assessor, began: “Our appeals department has analyzed your assessment appeal and supporting documentation. Our analysis indicates the assessed valuation should remain as originally proposed for the following reason: The result is based on consideration of submitted appraisal and also an analysis of comparable properties.”
Black Lives Matter.
My appeal was filed through the Oak Park Township. These are the most knowledgeable staff of comparable values in the community. The rejection, after approval of their assessment, is a slap in the face by Kaegi, an Oak Parker!
I have maintained for many years that the system was corrupt. I would like an assessment of all Black homeowners in Oak Park who have felt the same. I would also like Oak Park to conduct a survey of Black homeowners who have fled the village because of excessive taxes.
