After being closed for two weeks, the intersection of Lake Street and Marion Street will reopen Monday morning to north and southbound traffic. During the intersection’s closure, construction crews demolished and replaced the street and sidewalks as part of the village of Oak Park’s larger Lake Street improvement project.
The reopening marks the closure of the intersection of Lake Street and Forest Avenue, which will undergo the same treatment as that of Lake Street and Marion Street. Starting Monday, the Lake Street and Forest Avenue intersection will be closed for 14 days to allow construction crews to remove the existing intersection and replace it with a brick intersection. Decorative sidewalks will also be installed during the closure. The intersection is expected to reopen Aug. 17.
During the new intersection closure, barricades will block traffic on Forest Avenue north and south of Lake Street. Barricades will also block traffic on Lake Street east of Forest Avenue. The village will also place barricades indicating “Road Closed Ahead-Local Access Only” on Forest Avenue near Ontario Street, on Forest north of North Boulevard, and on Lake Street just west of Kenilworth Avenue.
While the intersection is closed, access to businesses and restaurants for pickups will be maintained on Maple Avenue, in Lot 3 on Marion Street between Lake and North Boulevard, and in Lot 10 on North Boulevard between Marion and Forest Avenue.
People can also access the downtown area via Ontario Street, Marion Street, Forest Avenue, and North and South Boulevards. Through-traffic should follow the detour to Chicago Avenue using Harlem Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue.
Parking is available in Lot 3 and 10, as well as Holley Court garage, The Emerson, Eleven 33, Vantage and at the Chase Bank north of Lake Street.
