Not even a pandemic can tamp down the importance of celebrating the mothers and mother-figures in our lives. Local restaurants have curated some creative carry-out menus to ease the burden of holiday cooking. Check out several that caught our eye!

FANCY AND FLEXIBLE:  Little Gem is offering special fare for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Brunch lovers will appreciate the veggie quiche item or BLT with house seasoned fries. A prime rib entrée with horseradish cream, vegetable and potatoes. and discounted wines for pick up will help make the most of a Mother’s Day dinner. The Marion St. restaurant will have special hours from 11am to 8:30pm on Sunday May 10.

ITALIAN VIBES:  In addition to offering their full menu for carry-out or delivery, Il Vicolo is also offering Manhattan Clam Chowder made with fresh little neck clams. Risotto with mussels and sea scallops, long-cooking Braciole—a flank steak stuffed with Parmesan, parsley and raisins and braised in tomato sauce (among others) are also part of the Oak Park Ave. restaurants’ Mother’s Day lineup. Quantities are limited, please place orders by 4pm on Saturday 5/9 at 4pm.

KEEP IT CASUAL: Let a Forest Park BBQ joint handle the cooking for your Mother’s Day feast. Small Batch Barbecue is offering Smoked meatloaf with mustard glaze, prime rib with creamy mustard sauce or double smoked orange glazed ham dinners with choice of sides like mashed potatoes or blistered green beans. Visit Small Batch Barbecue to place an online order as soon as possible space is limited.

FILIPINO FLAIR: Peace Love and Lumpia! for Mother’s Day Pig and Fire will be offering frozen lumpia, ube chocolate chip cookies and launching their ube cream puffs – chantilly cream in an ube choux pastry ball. Ube is a sweet purple yam originally from the Philippines. Visit Pig and Fire’s website or social media channels—to place an order for pick up at The Hatchery. Pig and Fire also delivers to Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park.

THE OUTLIER: Curate a food themed gift set of beauty products from Elevate Hair and Beauty Boutique. The Harrison Street Boutique offers items like honey heel glaze, vanilla bourbon body oil, citrus and cilantro scented candles, and apple-oat goat milk soap. Owner Gail Coughlin will curate a custom assortment of products for the special mother in your life when you contact the shop directly and offers free shipping and local delivery.

FROM ONE MAMA TO ANOTHER: “Being a mom myself I can’t forget moms. Eastgate Cafe is cooking for all those people who would like to treat their moms to a great meal,” says café owner Olya Daily. To honor Mother’s Day, she is offering a special menu featuring entrees like chicken wellington with spinach and feta and broiled salmon with white garlic dill sauce. All meals come with salad, bread sticks and two side dishes. Call the restaurant directly to order for curbside pick-up on May 10.

MUTICOURSE MAGIC: Citrine is offering a family-style mother’s day menu. The three-course dinner for four features their Farmer salad and an entrée of slow roasted prime rib, mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts with bacon. Cheesecake with strawberry sauce rounds out the menu. A second Scottish salmon entrée with couscous, vegetables and lemon beurre blanc can be added for an additional fee. Assorted wines by the bottle are also being offered at a discounted rate. Call the restaurant directly to place an order by Thursday, May 7 for pick up on Sunday May 10 between noon and 4pm.
