A woman was shot by an armed young adult man in an attempted armed robbery that took place in broad daylight at 4:15 p.m., April 21 in the 100 block of North Lombard Avenue.

The young man approached the woman, displayed a small silver-colored revolver and demanded she turn over her property to him.

After a brief struggle, the handgun discharged, striking the woman in her upper right leg. The man was last seen running southbound on Lombard Avenue toward South Boulevard.

According to police, the woman will recover. She did not know her attacker.

Police describe the man as being black, in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall and of thin build with a medium to dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black knit ski mask with eye and mouth holes, a blue or black hooded sweatshirt and light blue or gray skinny jeans with sneakers.
