On Nov. 13, four Fenwick student-athletes signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports next season. Kennedy Berschel is going to play soccer at University of Illinois, Katie Drumm is going to attend Boston College and join the swim team, Ellie Kaiser will play ice hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Benjamin Katzbeck will swim at Lynn University.

In her time at Fenwick, Drumm has done it all. She has qualified for state in the 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard fly and 100-yard backstroke. According to Boston College’s website, if Drumm’s 50-yard freestyle time at state this year carried over to her impending college career at BC, she would have the third-fastest time in the program’s history at that event.

Berschel excelled at Fenwick but also received state-wide attention which paved her way towards a scholarship at Illinois. She played for the Olympic Developmental Program state team for two years and will add to Illinois’ depth with her abilities as a midfielder. Illinois’ women’s soccer team went 9-8-1 last year.

Kaiser steps into Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an elite center in ice hockey. One of her best stretches at Fenwick came when she was named athlete of the month by the school in November of 2018. She had 11 total points and led her team to a 5-0-1 record.  She will try to lift an RPI team that has struggled with a 0-14-1 record (through Nov. 25).

Katzbeck goes into the 2019-20 swim season ready to make his first appearance at state. Last year, he placed fifth at sectionals in the 200-yard freestyle. According to collegeswimming.com, during the 2019 Midwest Speedo Challenge in Iowa on Nov. 8-10, Katzbeck had a personal best time in the 100-yard freestyle (51.62).
