Tree damage is widespread in the Oak Park and River Forest after a day of sleet and heavy, wet snow on Oct. 30.

David Powers, Oak Park village spokesman, said 250 trees were damaged by the snow and that most of the damage occurred in the southwest area of the village.

Most of the damage and debris came from fallen tree limbs, but a total of eight full trees had to be taken down completely due to damage. Associated debris affected travel on more than a dozen streets and several alleys.

“It will take some time to assess the health of the damaged trees to determine if any will ultimately need to be removed,” Powers said.

Fallen branches also took down power lines, knocking out power in scattered areas of both villages. A few sites, including one near Augusta and Forest in River Forest, where dozens of customers were affected, were still without power as of 5:45 p.m.
