Oak Park has an outsized role on Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Affirming and Inclusive Schools Task Force, a body created by the governor that will “recommend ways to make public schools safer, more supportive and more inclusive for transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming students,” according to a statement released by Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 officials.
Among the 25 members are Ginger Colamussi and Mika Yamamoto. Yamamoto is an Oak Park writer and parent, while Colamussi is the prevention and wellness coordinator at OPRF who sponsors the A Place for All Club at the high school.
“I’m excited to share the policies and procedures, as well as success and challenges, of OPRF’s journey to affirm and support transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students,” Colamussi said.
The task force began meeting in early October.
