The village of River Forest has been honored with two awards recognizing its commitment to sustainability.
On April 2, the village posted on its official social media account that the Arbor Day Foundation named River Forest a 2018 Tree City USA, with the nonprofit recognizing the village’s tree board/department, tree care ordinance, annual community forestry budget, and Arbor Day observation.
Trees “help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among other benefits,” the village posted on Facebook.
At a board meeting on April 8, Village Administrator Eric Palm also noted that the West Cook County Solid Waste Agency recycling center recognized River Forest with the Green Intelligence Award.
“They recognize a municipality that excels in sustainability,” he said at the meeting.
He said the village will receive the award on Earth Day, April 22.
