Look out Starbucks, there’s about to be a new bean purveyor in town … and right across the street.
Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea has announced it will be the newest tenant of District House, the five-story luxury condominium building at the northwest corner of Lake Street and North Euclid Avenue.
Fairgrounds owner Michael Schultz did not return calls requesting more information, but he did tell Chicago Eater that the new Fairgrounds in Fulton Market will offer “cocktails, giant swings and skee ball.”
The chain of coffee shops already has locations in Bucktown and at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, along with shops in Minneapolis and downtown Los Angeles.
Bob Ranquist, developer of the District House condo building, declined to discuss the Oak Park location but provided a press release from District House noting that the Chicago-based Fairgrounds offers “interesting, elevating elixirs, all-day breakfast, and an incredible variety of coffee and teas.”
The shop will be located at 702 Lake St. – right across the street from Starbucks.
The message from Fairgrounds notes: “We’re always thinking on what’s next – come try a tea elixir or the latest roaster on tap to taste for yourself!”
“We’re also committed to serving the high-quality, ethically-sourced ingredients to create flavorful, nutrient-packed meals, so you can get it all at Fairgrounds.”
The press release gives no opening date but says the coffee and tea shop is expected to open later this year.
