I am supporting Amanda Massie in her candidacy for the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education. I have known her for almost 20 years, and I think she would be an asset as a school board member. She is dedicated, level-headed and works well with a wide variety of people. She takes the time to do her homework and fully understand the issues she is working on.
One of the things I have always admired about Amanda is the enormous energy she brings to issues that affect all of us in Oak Park and River Forest. She regularly attends school board and village meetings with a critical eye on issues that affect our children and also our property taxes. She has spoken out in favor of more transparency from the school board about issues that affect educational excellence and academic equity, and against frivolous spending.
In her campaign, Amanda has been working hard to gather input from parents, teachers and other citizens about what they think is working and what is broken in our schools. She will be very open to input from a wide array of sources if she is elected.
As a former parent of D200 students, I think she’ll be especially sensitive to the concerns of parents and former parents who believe we deserve the best educational outcomes for all our students.
For all of these reasons, I hope you’ll join me in giving Amanda one of your votes for school board representation on Election Day.
