Mary Alice Dixon

Mary Alice Dixon (nee Nykiel), 69, formerly of Oak Park, died on Feb. 10, 2019, after a long illness at her Westchester home, surrounded by her family. A registered nurse, she served thousands of patients, primarily children, who benefitted from her 45 years of nursing at Michael Reese, Hartgrove, Riveredge, Children’s Memorial, and Lurie Children’s hospitals. Her colleagues appreciated her skill as a clinician and spoke of what an honor it was to work with her. A lover of people and brought others together through travels to various locales from Cancun to Vegas to Arizona, international adventures to England and Spain and Hong Kong, campfires at the farm in Marlette, and many parties, from the St. Patrick’s Day dance at St. Giles to her infamous Oscar party to the pierogi and kolacky party. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Giles Catholic Church. 

Mary Alice Dixon is survived by her husband, Russell A. Dixon, D.D.S.; her daughter, Erica Dixon; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dixon-Johnson; her grandchildren, Cooper and Russell; and her siblings, Gail Maher and Glen Nykeil. 

A visitation was held on Feb. 14, at Conboy Funeral Home in Westchester, with funeral Mass celebrated on Feb. 15 at St. Giles with Rev. Carl Morello presiding.
