Visitors to Oak Park spent $224.7 million in 2016, according to a news release from Visit Oak Park, the nonprofit tasked with attracting tourists to the village.

Visit Oak Park CEO Sara Barnett said tourism expenditures for the entire Visit Oak Park area, covering several western suburban communities, including Maywood, River Forest, Berwyn and Brookfield, totaled $602.8 million in 2016.

That represents a 2.6 percent and 2.5 percent increase from the previous year for the area and Oak Park, respectively, helping to support more than 5,300 local jobs and generating $65.4 million, according to Visit Oak Park.
