A man brandishing a handgun ordered a woman from her vehicle in the 1100 block of North Kenilworth Avenue on Wednesday, Jan. 17, but he failed to drive off with the car, according to a police report.

The victim was waiting in her vehicle at about 6:30 p.m., when a small, dark vehicle pulled past her and stopped.

A masked man with a handgun exited and approached the victim and ordered her from the car.

The victim complied and ran toward the rear of her home where a relative waited in a different vehicle. The two drove off and called the police.

After returning to the residence, her vehicle was still there. Police report that the woman might have accidently turned off the ignition with her keyless ignition system, known as a fob.

Without the fob the carjacker would not have been able to turn on the car.

The victim could not describe the race of the man but described him as about 5-foot-9, with a medium build and wore dark clothing and a mask. The victim could not describe the vehicle or the man’s accomplice.
