This year the NCAA introduced an early signing period for high school football players who have made commitments to colleges. The traditional signing day will still be the first Wednesday of February each year, but the early period allows for those who feel solid in their commitments to sign.
On December 20, Fenwick had four players sign letters of intent to play college football. They are offensive tackle Austin Glazier (Fordham), defensive backs Lorente and Lorenzano Blakeney (Trinity International), and wide receiver Michael O’Laughlin (West Virginia).
“It felt really good (to sign), said O’Laughlin, who received a late offer from Ohio State but maintained his previous commitment. “I knew I was going to West Virginia all the way and I didn’t have any second thoughts, but at the same time it’s nice to get that off my back. Now I can relax and really have fun the rest of my senior year.”
Oak Park and River Forest offensive tackle Phil Saleh also signed with Fordham.
