Carolyn M. Steirer, 80, of Sarasota, Florida, and formerly of Pierre, South Dakota and Oak Park, died on Oct. 4, 2017. Born in Chicago on Aug. 3, 1937, she was a 1959 graduate of St. Olaf College who received a degree in Dietetics and began her career as a dietician at Edward Hines VA Hospital.
In 1973, she started her lifelong career in real estate and held an executive position at the Oak Park Board of Realtors for many years. In the early 1990s, she made a career move to Pierre, South Dakota to work as the executive director of the South Dakota Association of Realtors. In 2000, she retired to Sarasota and worked part-time for the Sarasota Board of Realtors.
She loved to travel, had a great passion for reading, and enjoyed an enriched life of faith within her church family by being an active member of choir, prayer groups, and stewardship. She created many beautiful friendships along life’s journey, which she held dear to her heart. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Carolyn Steirer was the mother of Suzanne (Martin) Battistoni, Sherrie (Richard) Neidhardt, and Stephanie (William) Klug; “Amma” of Melanie Battistoni, Kimberly (Frank) Alonso, Jacqueline (Warren) Khatib, and Nick and Amaya Klug; and “Great-Amma” of Isabel Alonso.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 at Oak Park’s Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at United Lutheran Church, 409 Greenfield St. in Oak Park.
