Karen Rozmus, recently retired from the Village of Oak Park Public Works Department, was named recipient of the Illinois Recycling Association’s Recycler of the Year Award.  The award was announced and presented to Ms Rozmus at the IRA’s Annual Meeting September 12, 2017 at the I-Hotel in Champaign IL.

Ms Rozmus was nominated by a colleague, Adam Jaquet, Vice-President of Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc, Galva IL.  The President of the Illinois Recycling Association, Kris Kaar, in presenting the award, highlighted Karen’s contributions to the recycling industry and her program accomplishments.

Ms Rozmus began her career in recycling and waste management with the Village of Forest Park as the Chair of the Forest Park Environmental Commission and subsequently as the Village’s Recycling Coordinator.  She joined the Village of Oak Park in 1995 and, over her 22 years of service, worked with neighborhood groups on alley clean-up projects, developed special recycling collection events of paint, electronics, unused medications and began a pilot food scrap collection program in 2012 which expanded village-wide in 2013.
