Oak Parkers are invited for a tour of the new solar panel installation above the ice rink at Ridgeland Common, 415 Lake St., at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Park District of Oak Park officials and representatives of energy provider Realgy LLC and solar-panel design firm Eco-Solar Solutions LLC will be on hand to explain the system.
Wednesday Journal reported last month that the 100.8 kilowatt system is projected to pump out 125,000 kilowatt hours of energy a year. That means a savings of $7,000 a year for the park district.
The solar panels not only will save the park district money but also will reduce coal use by 337,500 pounds and carbon emissions by 87,500 pounds a year, according to a Realgy press release.
