Robert Pozorski

Robert S. “Bob” Pozorski, 89, of Oak Park, died on April 6, 2016. Born on June 6, 1926 in northwest Chicago, near Addison and Narragansett, when the houses were new and surrounded by prairies, he graduated from Steinmetz High School, attended Wright Junior College, the University of Chicago, and, ultimately, graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Business Administration. He played piano and had considered making a living as a musician, but he began working instead for Western Electric in 1952 and held various engineering, computer technology, and managerial positions in the organization until his retirement in 1989 from what, by then, was the Technologies Division of AT&T.

He and his late wife, Winifred (“Winx”), moved with their first two children to Oak Park in 1960. He became involved in local political action, joining an organization called Oak Park Independent Democrats. He was part of a group of folks in Oak Park who were instrumental in changing how political candidates were slated for local elections. He also served for many years as a precinct captain and an election judge, and as a tax preparation volunteer for Oak Park Township. Having an ear and a passion for music, he amassed a substantial collection of jazz and classical vinyl records. Interested in the arts generally, Bob and Winx attended concerts, theater performances, and exhibitions regularly and were longtime subscribers and members of various Chicago arts organizations.

Bob Pozorski is survived by his sons, Matthew and Nathaniel; his daughter-in-law, Laura; his son-in-law, Daniel; and his grandchildren, Gregory, Colin, Samuel, and William. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine.
